Leith is no longer a side trip from central Edinburgh. Its bakeries, record shops, harbour paths and old tenement streets make a satisfying day in their own right.

- Ride the tram to Foot of the Walk and begin with coffee near the Kirkgate.
- Follow Constitution Street to The Shore, allowing time for galleries and second-hand shops.
- Walk the Water of Leith path back towards Stockbridge or stay for an early evening meal by the docks.
